E. Jean Carroll lawyer Roberta Kaplan fights the good fight in Watson Ellis custom

So SO proud to have suited up lead counsel for E. Jean Carroll, Roberta Kaplan, for the recent historic lawsuit against you-know-who. Soooooo proud, to just have been a part of this, in some small way, on the right side of history.

E. Jean Carroll is an icon, her bravery and poise are beyond measure. To say nothing (yet) of her wonderful attorney, Robbie Kaplan. We had the pleasure of spending a little time with Robbie recently during her fitting and design sessions in the lead up to the trial β€” what a gorgeous human!

But let’s just focus on her achievements for a moment. She is an absolute giant of a civil rights attorney. In 2013, she successfully litigated on behalf of client Edith Windsor that section 3 of the defense of marriage act was unconstitutional. This case further paved the way for marriage equality in the United States, allowing married lesbian and gay couples the same benefits as any other couple. Since then, she has repeatedly held both white supremacy and corrupt power to account. The Washington Post has described Robbie as β€œa brash and original strategist, with neither a gift for patience nor silence, a crusader for underdogs who has won almost every legal accolade imaginable.” Representing E. Jean Carroll is the icing on the cake.

All causes we 1000% believe in. Maybe now you can see why we are just SO thrilled…

Now to the clothes β€” Robbie just looked so smart while litigating in Watson Ellis custom suiting (cringy pun intended). Much has been said of her prodigious legal brain, but we also need to give her props for style. Just as she has successfully styled Kaplan, Hecker & Fink as a "new-fashioned old-fashioned" law firm, Robbie was after re-imagined 90s styles in very modern suiting fabrics.

We walked the line between feminine and masculine to help Robbie exude her signature strength and tenacity. In our humble opinion, she held her own style-wise in standing beside the always fabulous E. Jean Carroll, which is saying a lot. Think: classic grey patterns tempered with mother of pearl silver buttons. Army green patch pockets on a suit that skims curves just right. Rich, refined plum in a sharp stand collar shape (a silhouette of Robbie's design!).

We also want to shout out another member of Robbie’s team, the fantastic Emma DeCourcy, whom we also had the distinct pleasure of suiting up in recent months for this historic trial. Like Robbie, Emma just looked so incredible throughout the whole trial, as you can see here.
